Um, hi, um, I've got kind of an unusual question I think, but I, ah, essentially, ah, I'm someone who was brought to CAMH, um, earlier this year, um, by the police. They forced me out of my apartment, they, they used a battering ram, broke down the door of my apartment, forced me out in a police car, and then I was forced to spend three days at CAMH, ah, and then while I was there they told me I had schizophrenia, even though I do not agree and I do not have any symptoms of it. And the problem is that, um, I think I'm, like, have PTSD because of the experience, and so I'm wondering if, ah, there's some way that someone at CAMH would be willing to kinda like, help me with, this sort of, psychological issues that I am having as a consequence of being forced to visit CAMH, and like, apologize.

0:52

Yeah.

1:05

Okay. Okay, sure.

1:23

Hello?

1:25

Oh. Hi, um, did you hear what I said to the last person or do I have to repeat?

1:35

Okay, okay, I'll repeat. Ah, basically, I'm calling because, um, like I had an, an experience, I've actually been brought to CAMH multiple times. Um, I've, I've got a problem with my family and a lot of people I know believing that I have a mental illness even though I do not have any symptoms, ah, and twice now they've gone to the courts and filled out forms to force me to visit psychiatric facilities for no reason. And then the most recent time that I went was earlier this year, um, and the police came to my apartment, and I did not want to go, so they broke down my door with a battering ram, ah, and like, I feel like, extremely frustrated about it. Um, and when I went to CAMH, I showed up and they filled out a form, uh, saying that they were afraid I was going to be violent, even though there was absolutely no evidence that I was going to be violent in any way, ah, and forced me to stay for three days. And then on the last day the psychiatrist, ah, like, diagnosed me with schizophrenia, but, like, did not tell me, and instead told my parents, in a secret meeting, and I only found out afterwards. And, ah, I do not agree with the diagnosis.

So I feel like, extremely frustrated, and, like, on some level, I kinda feel like it's possible to argue that I have PTSD now, like I almost feel like I have psychological issues from just the harm of being brought to CAMH, ah, and so I guess like the reason I'm calling is cause like, I kinda, I dunno what I want exactly, but like I was hoping to have someone, like, tell me that I'm correct that I'm, to feel frustrated by what happened, and that CAMH is like, sorry for harming me, and that I do not have schizophrenia.

3:22

Okay.

3:34

Is that where, ah, there's someone I've been emailing named [redacted]. Is that, ah, is that the person who...

3:42

Okay. Cause a patient, yeah, I believe I already talked to that person and they told me to contact, contac-, uh, Access CAMH.

3:55

So... wh-, what's that?

4:16

Uh, just wanna check, cause, I'm... yo-, you said I should talk to the, the Patient and Family Experience office? Is that the office you're describing? Okay yeah, I have, I've been c-, I've been corresponding with that office over email. I've already sent a lot, a b-, a, a bunch of emails back and forth, and they've not... but they're, they're not, they've just to-, they told me to call you. They said, I, like, I told them that I was harmed by the experience and I was hoping talk to someone about it, and, uh..

4:43

Okay. Well there was...

5:11

Yeah.

5:16

Okay, I understand.

5:31

I understand, okay.

5:35

Yeah. Okay, okay.

5:39

Alright that's, that's, eh, that's, that's useful, that's I appre-, I appreciate your response actually, that's, that's, that's some good information I guess. I, I... Okay. Maybe I'll try to contact the Patient and Family Experience office, uh, a second time, an-...

5:52

Okay.

6:03

Okay.

6:04

Alright.

6:05

Okay, can I just ask you one more question? I, I kinda suspect you might not have an answer to this either, but like, just, one more question I have is just that, I, when I was taken to CAMH earlier this year I was given a business card by someone who said they were a social worker, um, and they worked for CAMH, and I, I ph-, ph-, and they were physically present at all, for all these events, so they know what happened. But whenever I try to contact them, they just ignore my phone calls and my emails, and I was wondering do you know why they might be doing that?

6:38

Okay, alright, okay. Alright, I will contact...

6:41

Yeah.

6:46

Okay.

6:47

Alright, fair enough, I, I understand. Yeah I'll, I'll cal-, I'll talk to the Pam-, Family and Patient, uh, of-, yeah.

6:52

Okay, sure, sure. Yeah, please, thank you.

8:40

Um, hello, ah, I'm trying to speak to someone, I think this is the Patient and Family Experience office, um, so the reason I'm calling... Ah, so my name is Shane O'Connell, I've already made a few attempts to contact CAMH, but, um, essentially, ah, um, I want to call about, I kind of want some infor-, some, a response to the issue I'm having. I've, I've described already to s-, at least one person in this office, um, named [redacted].

Um, essentially, I've, I've a problem with my family and, uh, people I know believing that I have a mental illness without any evidence at all, um, and filling out forms under the Mental Health Act to force me to visit CAMH and other psychiatric facilities, ah, for no reason. Ah, and then, earlier this year, um, my family filled out a form to force me to visit CAMH in January, based on absolutely nothing. Um, and the police came to my apartment, and I did not want to go, so they broke down the door of my apartment with a battering ram, and made a lot of, caused a lot of physical damage, um, dragged me out in handcuffs, put me in a police car, and forced me to visit CAMH, where upon arrival, a doctor at CAMH filled out a form saying that, um, I might cause harm to other people, or they were worried I might case harm to other people, based on absolutely nothing, um, just some, some unknown conversation with my parents in which I was not involved. Ah, and then I was forced to spend three days at CAMH, for no reason, um, at which point I spoke to a psychiatrist, who I had a, almost, an incredibly short conversation in which we discussed almost nothing. Ah, and then they talked to my parents, ah, and then afterwords I found out that they told my parents that they thought I had schizophrenia, based on absolutely nothing, and with no evidence at all.

After writing this description, I feel that I should mention that the phrase "dragged me out in handcuffs", is, in retrospect, a slight exaggeration. They did not physically drag me out of the apartment. Once they opened the door with the battering ram, they put me in handcuffs, and then after that I went with them without any physical resistance. I just walked with them normally to their car. I used the word "dragged" because I was trying to emphasize that I did not want to go.

Um, and, so, like, after that experience was over, I'm like, I'm, you know, I think based on my description, I think you can understand how that's very frustrating, right, that's a very frustrating thing, series of events to happen to someone. Um, and, like, I feel like I'm now, like, been like psychologically harmed by the experience of going to CAMH, right, so like, I did not feel like I had any kind of mental illness of any kind. Well, I mean I had some other things going on that are frustrating, but like, ah, being brought to CAMH, has made things worse. And, ah, I feel like I need someone to apologize, and to like, tell me I'm correct that I am, correct to be frustrated by what happened, and to like, ah, tell me that I do not have schizophrenia. Ah, and, just like, admit, I, you know, acknowledge what happened was re-, I should not have been brought there, you know what I mean. And tell me how I can make it so that I will not be brought there again by the police again, cause I do not see how I'm supposed to prevent it from happening again, like, it, it just seems like my par-, family is able to just go and fill out a form whenever they want, and just, just to mess with me right, and noone cares. Like it seems like someone should care.

Um, so if there's some way you can help with this, I've, you know, I've already been speaking to someone named [redacted] on email, they're, I, I appreciate that they're answering emails, but they're not really sympathizing, I mean, ah, you know. And, ah, they told me to call CAMH, Access CAMH, about wh-, I, I told them I, my last email said I think I have PTSD cause of what happened. They told me to contact CAMH, Access CAMH, and try to, for, like, intake or whatever, and like, ah, so I, that's why I'm calling. But like, I still feel like, I'm not really, it's not really being addressed, like. You know, I just want someone, ah, I want someone to agree with me that I do not have a mental illness, and that I was harmed by, by the system, and, and that, someth-, something should be done so that my family is ignored if they f-, if any-, or if people try to claim I have a mental illness, like, people should tell them, no, Shane does not have a mental illness, you know what I mean?

Um, anyway, so my, if you can contact me, you know, I've, I have already talked to one person, so you've already got my contact information, but just to repeat it, so my name is Shane O'Connell, um, my, my phone number is [redacted], um, my email address is [redacted], spelt [redacted]. I also have a website where I describe some of these experiences just to like, express myself, so that people know what happened, um, and so you can read that if you want more information in my website is located at https://shane.oconnell.cc, and if you go there you should be able to find it easily, I think it's, it's, it's probably the first link, it says "trapped in my apartment".

13:33

Okay I just got a message saying running out of time, so I hope you got all that information in that, the message I just left, and that is all. Thank you.
