Subconscious Language

Introduction

There are a bunch of places on my website where I have described the concept of what I have been calling the "brain hemisphere language" or the "subconscious language". In particular, I described the idea in this ChatGPT conversation, and I also described how I came to believe that the language might exist on the page about being trapped in my apartment. My theory is that there are subtle alternative definitions for a lot of words which we are only aware of in one brain hemisphere, and that we are actually using these alternative definitions to convey and interpret extra information when we speak and listen to language while not being fully aware of it. These alternative definitions form a separate, arguably secret language.

I am not sure which term I prefer. My thinking is that the term subconscious language makes it easier to intuitively understand how the language appears to be used and sounds a bit more normal, however I also kind of like the term brain hemisphere language because it makes it clear that the language appears to be designed to only be understood in one brain hemisphere and not the other. I also find the term brain hemisphere language somewhat amusing for some reason. They are both terms that I came up with myself, as I have never heard anyone else talk about this language before.

On this page I will try to describe the words that I suspect might exist in the language, and the definitions that I suspect that the words might have. I could be wrong about any of this, as these definitions are based on vague feelings that I have had when trying to pay attention to the words that people use as well as words that I have used myself. I am extremely sympathetic to the idea that I have been noticing patterns in language that are not really there, and I am not offended if someone tells me that they think I am incorrect. If these patterns really exist, maybe it is possible to use a computer, in particular some kind of large language model or statistical algorithm to prove whether or not these things that I suspect that I have noticed are real patterns or not.

The Brain Hemispheres

The first step to convincing yourself that this language might exist is to first believe that it is possible that the two brain hemispheres might in some sense be operating almost like they are two different people. Personally, this YouTube video is what first convinced me that the brain hemispheres might be able to operate independently in some way. In the video, the author of the video says that only one brain hemisphere is responsible for speech, however the author of the video appears to mainly be describing split-brain patients, in which the hemispheres have been surgically separated from each other. From what I have read online, it appears that in normal people both brain hemispheres have some language processing ability, even though one hemisphere seems like it might be more responsible for producing speech than the other. My theory is that while it may be that one brain hemisphere is mostly responsible for speech, it might be the case that in a regular person who has not had their brain hemispheres surgically separated from each other that the hemisphere less responsible for speech is still at least able to contribute hints and influence speech in some way, even if it is to a lesser degree.

My theory is that from my perspective as the consciousness mostly located in the brain hemisphere that does not usually understand the secret language, I feel like I am speaking normally and am deciding all of the words myself, however this is in fact not completely true, and that often the words that I use actually have alternate meanings and are conveying information that has been provided by the other brain hemisphere which I am not normally aware of. In psychology, people often refer to there being a conscious mind and a subconscious or unconscious mind, and while I am not sure if I am using the words the same way that people normally use them, I have come to view these words as useful words to refer to the two brain hemispheres. The way that I think about it, the conscious mind would be the brain hemisphere that is not normally aware that words often have hidden alternative meanings, while the subconscious or unconscious mind is the brain hemisphere that is aware. According to my theory, the subconscious mind is actually aware of both the regular definitions of words as well as the alternate, hidden definitions, and cooperates with the subconscious minds of other people that I communicate with in order to keep this fact secret from the conscious minds of most people.

It would be creepy and strange if this were true, however according to that YouTube video, the brain does have some strange behaviours in split-brain patients, and so it seems possible to me. I recommend reading the Wikipedia articles on split-brain patients, alien hand syndrome, dual consciousness and lateralization of brain function.

The Words

Word Pairs

The aspect of the language that appears to come up more than anything else is the idea that many words come in pairs, and for each pair, each word in the pair normally refers to one of the two brain hemispheres. It seems like there might be a large number of word pairs, so that the brain has many ways of communicating the concept without it being obvious that it is occurring. Here are some word pairs that I have noticed:

A good example of a situation in which it seems like the language might be used is in the movie The Sixth Sense. In this movie, there is a young person who claims to be able to see and communicate with dead people. The title of the movie, which references the number 6 and as far as I understand it is intended to refer to the ability of the young person to communicate with dead people, seems to me like it might be a metaphor for the ability to understand the subconscious language. If a person has a sixth sense, meaning they understand the subconscious language, they can communicate with dead people, which is a word that can be used to refer to the subconscious brain hemisphere.

In general, I have found that movies, television shows, and song lyrics are good places to try to find examples of possible subconscious language patterns. It often seems like these things have more potential examples of subconscious language use than regular conversational speech. Perhaps this occurs because those mediums are more flexible in their word choices due to the fact that they are intended to be entertaining and fill time, without necessarily trying to accomplish something specific, and so there are more opportunities to use arbitrary metaphors which could have an alternative meaning.

It seems to me that most messages that are conveyed through the subconscious language are conveyed through metaphors, and that these word pairs are used as a general indicator that a hidden message is present. Once the brain has noticed a few of these key words, it can start looking for the hidden message, and is able to reconstruct the hidden message by considering various ways that the rest of the sentence might make sense metaphorically. This often involves using the rest of the words in the sentence according to their conscious, normal meaning, though perhaps in a different order or by having them refer to different things than the obvious meaning behind the sentence. The language makes me think of the language used by the aliens in the episode Darmok from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The Numbers

Besides the word pairs, another aspect of the language that appears to often be used is to encode hidden meanings into numbers. This seems like it might be a good method of secretly transmitting information because there are many situations in which numbers are used in which people do not pay close attention to the specific numbers. Sometimes the numbers can be transmitted by using a word that has the number of letters indicated by the number, and my intuition has been that it is often the last word in a sentence that is most important when numbers are transmitted in this way. It is also possible to transmit the numbers by grouping together a number of physical objects according to the number that is intended to be transmitted.

Here are the definitions of the numbers, at least according to my best guess so far:

6 and 9

As I described previously, these numbers seem like they often refer to the brain hemispheres, with 6 referring to the subconscious brain hemisphere and 9 referring to the conscious brain hemisphere.

The number 4, which contains two lines that appear to cross each other, seems like it might be used to indicate that information has been transferred between the conscious and subconscious minds. It appears that the letter X, or sometimes the word "cross", might be synonymous with the number 4 and also indicates a similar concept.

The fact that a cross seems like it has this alternative meaning makes the fact that Christianity uses a cross symbol very suspicious to me.

The number 8 is a number that visually combines the numbers 6 and 9, and I suspect that the number might be sometimes used to refer to a person who understands the subconscious language. This makes it similar to the number 4 in the sense that it is related to information being transferred between the conscious and subconscious minds, however it seems like the number 4 is more often associated with a specific message, while 8 seems like it is more often associated with a person, or using the language to accomplish something. For some reason, I have come to associate the number 8 with the word "power". This seems like it makes sense to me because if you are able to use the language to accomplish something, it seems like that would make a person powerful.

The number 5 seems like it might be a synonym for "friend".

The number 7 seems like it might be a synonym for "family".

2 and 3

The numbers 2 and 3 often appear to be used as generic ways of referring to things as either negative or positive, with 2 referring to something as being negative and 3 referring to something as being positive. I think of them as being similar to the comment voting system on Reddit, in which a downvote means that someone does not like a specific comment, and an upvote means that someone does like a specific comment. The numbers 2 and 3 seem like they might often be signalled to someone by using a specific number of physical objects, for example by handing someone two identical objects, you are sending a negative signal, however if you hand someone three identical objects, you are sending a positive signal. The fact that these numbers have low values makes it easier to send the signal without using a large number of physical objects, so this seems like a rational choice for the definitions of these numbers.

For example, 32 actually means the same thing as 25, and 52 actually means the same thing as 27. The reason for this is that 3, 5, and 7 seem like they might be relationship levels, and it is assumed that people usually transfer up to the next relationship level. If you were previously a 3, it is assumed that the next relationship level is a 5, and so 32 is a way of saying you increased from relationship level 3 to the next level, which is 5. For example, 26 seems like it might be a way of saying that a message was changed into becoming a subconscious message when it was not one before.

As I mentioned previously, the numbers are sometimes hidden in messages by using words that have the corresponding number of letters. Interestingly, the word "to" itself has two letters. This means that there are a lot of ways to encode the 23, 25, and 27 number patterns using words by using the word "to" followed by a word with three, five, or seven letters. For example, if you say you are going to watch something on television, you have actually inserted the 25 number pattern by saying "to watch".

It is also possible for the number 2 to be doubled, as in the number 22, and this also seems like it has a specific meaning. The number 22 seems to me like it is associated with the word "reset". This can be interpreted as either a positive thing or a negative thing depending on the context. If you have previously been receiving a lot of 2s from someone, indicating that they have had an increasingly negative opinion of you over time, a 22 might actually be a positive thing because it means the relationship has been reset back to a neutral relationship. If you have previously been receiving a lot of 3s from someone, indicating that they have had an increasingly positive opinion of you over time, a 22 might be a somewhat negative thing because it means the relationship has been reset to being less positive. However, to be honest, it seems to me like the language overall is more focused on positivity, and it is not really possible to send an extremely negative message, so receiving a 22 is not a really negative thing even if you had been receiving a lot of 3s previously. These are words just like in a regular conscious language, and so interpreting them depends on the context.

Because they are a pair, I suspect that 2 and 3 are also sometimes used to refer to the brain hemispheres, however to be honest I am not completely sure which number is for which brain hemisphere, unlike the numbers 6 and 9 for which it seems more clear to me.

The number 1, by itself, seems like it might generically refer to a message in the subconscious language. The number does not seem like it has a strong meaning unless you see the number multiple times. The number 11 seems like it has a stronger meaning than 1 by itself. I suspect that the number 11 actually in some ways has a similar definition as the number 23, due to the fact that there are two 1s, however 11 interpreted in binary is the number three. I also find that I somewhat often notice the number 11:11, for example in places where a time is written, which is essentially the same as 11 but is a stronger message due to the fact that it is less likely to occur naturally.

Other Words

Basic

I have a vague feeling that the subconscious langage itself is sometimes referred to as "basic". Interestingly this is also the name of a computer programming language.

Block or Brick

For some reason I have a feeling that these words might have an alternative meaning of "thought".

Iron

I have this vague feeling that "iron" is associated with the concept of trying to keep the language secret.

Gold

The word "gold" honestly seems like it means something important, however I am not sure what it means specifically.

Joke

Sometimes it seems like the word "joke" is a word that refers to something that contains a message in the subconscious language. This seems like it might make a kind of rational sense, because if someone tells a joke that is based on saying something absurd, that presents an opportunity for the brain to use unusual words together, which seems like it might make it easier to insert a hidden alternate meaning.

Any word that contains an X, like the word executive

Any word that contains an X makes it seem like it might in some ways have a similar definition as the number 4, in that it refers to messages being passed between brain hemispheres. To be honest, the fact that the word executive has an x in it is one of the reasons that I sometimes suspect that business executives might be people that sometimes know the language.

Conspiracy Theory

I have noticed that certain patterns, in particular the cross or the x, seem like they are often associated with groups that have a lot of power. As I mentioned above, Christianity uses a cross symbol, and the phrase "business executive" has an x in it. Religions also seem to often use arbitrary numbers in general, like for example priests often quote bible verses by number. This has caused me to be somewhat suspicious that it may be the case that a lot of people who are in those groups might actually already be aware of this language, or at the very least are often using the language even if they are not aware that they are using it. I could of course be wrong about this and it would be wrong to assume that someone who is a member of one of those groups definitely knows about the language already.

My Opinion

For the record, I personally do not like this language, and I do not want people to try to use it to communicate with me. If someone comes up to me and seems like they are intentionally using the number 25, for example, to tell me that they consider me a friend, I am going to be annoyed at them. I feel like I have this intuition that the numbers and various words have these meanings, however this is not because I want to use the language or that I like the language.

This means that there are a lot of ways to encode the 23, 25, and 27 number patterns using words by using the word "to" followed by a word with three, five, or seven letters. For example, if you say you are going to watch something on television, you have actually inserted the 25 number pattern by saying "to watch". {.indent-paragraph} It is also possible for the number 2 to be doubled, as in the number 22, and this also seems like it has a specific meaning. The number 22 seems to me like it is associated with the word "reset". This can be interpreted as either a positive thing or a negative thing depending on the context. If you have previously been receiving a lot of 2s from someone, indicating that they have had an increasingly negative opinion of you over time, a 22 might actually be a positive thing because it means the relationship has been reset back to a neutral relationship. If you have previously been receiving a lot of 3s from someone, indicating that they have had an increasingly positive opinion of you over time, a 22 might be a somewhat negative thing because it means the relationship has been reset to being less positive. However, to be honest, it seems to me like the language overall is more focused on positivity, and it is not really possible to send an extremely negative message, so receiving a 22 is not a really negative thing even if you had been receiving a lot of 3s previously. The number does not seem like it has a strong meaning unless you see the number multiple times. The number 11 seems like it has a stronger meaning than 1 by itself. I suspect that the number 11 actually in some ways has a similar definition as the number 23, due to the fact that there are two 1s, however 11 interpreted in binary is the number three. I also find that I somewhat often notice the number 11:11, for example in places where a time is written, which is essentially the same as 11 but is a stronger message due to the fact that it is less likely to occur naturally. ### Other Words {.margin-bottom-zero} **Basic** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} I have a vague feeling that the subconscious langage itself is sometimes referred to as "basic". Interestingly this is also the name of [a computer programming language](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASIC). {.margin-bottom-zero} **Block or Brick** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} For some reason I have a feeling that these words might have an alternative meaning of "thought". {.margin-bottom-zero} **Iron** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} I have this vague feeling that "iron" is associated with the concept of trying to keep the language secret. {.margin-bottom-zero} **Gold** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} The word "gold" honestly seems like it means something important, however I am not sure what it means specifically. {.margin-bottom-zero} **Joke** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} Sometimes it seems like the word "joke" is a word that refers to something that contains a message in the subconscious language. This seems like it might make a kind of rational sense, because if someone tells a joke that is based on saying something absurd, that presents an opportunity for the brain to use unusual words together, which seems like it might make it easier to insert a hidden alternate meaning. {.margin-bottom-zero} **Any word that contains an X, like the word executive** {.indent-paragraph .margin-top-zero} Any word that contains an X makes it seem like it might in some ways have a similar definition as the number 4, in that it refers to messages being passed between brain hemispheres. To be honest, the fact that the word executive has an x in it is one of the reasons that I sometimes suspect that business executives might be people that sometimes know the language. ## Conspiracy Theory I have noticed that certain patterns, in particular the cross or the x, seem like they are often associated with groups that have a lot of power. As I mentioned above, Christianity uses a cross symbol, and the phrase "business executive" has an x in it. Religions also seem to often use arbitrary numbers in general, like for example priests often quote bible verses by number. This has caused me to be somewhat suspicious that it may be the case that a lot of people who are in those groups might actually already be aware of this language, or at the very least are often using the language even if they are not aware that they are using it. I could of course be wrong about this and it would be wrong to assume that someone who is a member of one of those groups definitely knows about the language already. ## My Opinion For the record, I personally do not like this language, and I do not want people to try to use it to communicate with me. If someone comes up to me and seems like they are intentionally using the number 25, for example, to tell me that they consider me a friend, I am going to be annoyed at them. I feel like I have this intuition that the numbers and various words have these meanings, however this is not because I want to use the language or that I like the language.
